    Blogger is crap....

I am getting more and more frustrated with Blogger as software. The last two weeks have seen regular problems in editing and posting. Italics aren't working today, and nor is the preview function. However, I doubt this is something that I will attend to before the expected general election. I originally planned a three month blogging experiment, which is up at the end of this month. I'll make a judgement on what to do in May.

    Thanks BB

It's picked up again today. It maybe that if I keep the blog going I will change to an externally hosted site in due course

As someone who doesn't take heis blogging to seriously, blogger does me fine, although I have been frustrated by it's slowness and glitches in the past. Aparently Wordpress is quite good and allows you to categorise posts, something I'd like to be able to do. Iwan who runs Sleblog (http://slebog.net/blog/) has translated it into Welsh and gives directions on how to change it

For Wordpress you'd need your own server (or virtual server) running PHP and MySQL. Dreamhost (dreamhost.com) has an excellent package (about $10 per month) which includes an automatic Wordpress setup if you wish. I've used Wordpress on Dreamhost and I think it's very good indeed. For an example of a site using Wordpress, look at Matt's photomatt.net (he wrote most of the software)

For a managed, hosted blogging solution, Typepad's probably the best around:

Thanks. I checked out typepad at the beginning and liked it but wanted to start with a free service. I will have a look at the features you suggest. As I said I will properly review this in the late spring.
