Save Penrhys Surgery!
Last week I went to a well-attended meeting in Llanfair Church in Penrhys, along with local Councillors Robert Bevan and Mark Adams, to support keeping Penrhys Surgery.
The meeting, convened by the Penrhys Community Action Group, was chaired by Wayne Carter from the Penrhys Partnership. The Action Group has already collected over 400 signatures on a petition to keep the surgery.
The proposal to close the surgery has come from the doctors who currently run the surgery three days a week, who wish to concentrate their time on their other surgeries in Ferndale and Maerdy.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Local Health Board who said they were not persuaded of the case for closure. The issue will go to a meeting of the LHB on 26th October.
I have a meeting scheduled with the LHB earlier that month, where I will raise the issue.
The surgery is important to the life of the community in Penrhys and is in a modern building. It has a lot of patients and is clearly sustainable. The surgery should be kept open.
