    Tommy Farr

I met up with Mal Pope to discuss his plans for a musical about the Rhondda Boxer Tommy Farr today. Mal has had a great success recently with his musical Amazing Grace about Evan Roberts and the Welsh Revival.

Now he is turning his attention to the former Welsh and British heavyweight champion who fought Joe Louis for the world title in 1937. Tommy Farr was born in Clydach Vale in the Rhondda and nicknamed "The Tonypandy Terror".

Mal has already collected a series of stories about Tommy Farr and it is going to be a fascinating show. He has already started writing songs and hopes that the show will be touring Wales by 2007 - the 70th anniversary of that big New York fight. More details of the musical are at Contenderthemusical. You can also send Mal any stories you have about Tommy Farr.
