House of Lords Reform
Congratulations to my Parliamentary colleague Chris Bryant MP on helping to organise the victory for a fully-elected House of Lords yesterday.
Talking to some MPs last night, it is clear there are a number who voted for it because they were against the hybrid - so some who supported the elected House are looking for the plan to be kicked into touch becaue they want an appointed House.
What will happen now? The most likely thing I think is that the creation of an elected House becomes a manifesto commitment for the next UK General Election.
How to get Turkeys voting for Christmas? Why not let the current Lords stay on with speaking and attendance entitlements but not voting rights for a period?
