    Tommy Farr - The Musical

There was a standing ovation at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff last night for Mal Pope's musical about the life of Rhondda Boxer Tommy Farr, Contender.

Mal's synopsis of the musical is here.

The Western Mail review is here.

I found myself sitting immediately behind my Assembly colleague Dr Brian Gibbons AM. Brian says that Tommy Farr's parents came from the village he lives in, Blaengwynfi.

I first met Mal Pope to discuss this project back in the summer of 2005. I''ve been pleased to promote it to the Arts Council as well. Mal said to me yesterday that he hoped he'd done the Rhondda proud. I think so - but go see it for yourself. It's on at the Sherman till Saturday, then moves to Llandudno next week, and then Aberystwyth the week after. More details and musical extracts here.
