‘Surprisingly, Mr Wheeler also backed Mr Brown over the economic crisis, saying: 'I'm inclined to think Labour is right. The US and virtually every other country in Europe is taking similar action. Since everyone else says it is right, my view is that Labour is probably right.

'The Tories are saying nothing should be done. They may be right, but it doesn't look good to say that the best thing is to do nothing.'’
