    New Mayor

Cllr Emlyn Jenkins and Cllr Jackie Jenkins have been doing the job of Mayor and mayoress for so long it's surprising that only now have they been formally inaugurated.

The ceremony was held ten days ago in St Peter's Church in Pentre. Representatives from across Wales came to celebrate the occasion. Unfortunately I was away at the Labour conference.

Councillor Jenkins said: "It is a great honour and privilege for me to serve as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf. Each and every day brings different challenges and opportunities. It is wonderful to meet so many people from all walks of life. I find the community based work that I am doing as Mayor very rewarding."

Councillor Jacqueline Jenkins was formally declared Mayoress. This is the first time in Rhondda Cynon Taf that the Mayor and Mayoress, who are husband and wife, are both Councillors.

The Mayor has a variety of responsibilities, which include chairing the full Council meetings, attending civic and community functions. The Mayor will also be raising money for his three chosen charities which are, Cancer Research at Velindre Hospital, Faceup and the Christian Lewis Cancer Care. Councillor Joyce Cass will serve as the Council's Deputy Mayor.

If you have a community event that you would like the Mayor to attend, please write to the Mayor's Office, Municipal Buildings, Gelliwastad Road, Pontypridd, CF37 2DP.
