Teenage Mams
Today saw the launch of the annual Teenage Mams magazine which has been supported by the Assembly through the funding to Rhondda Cynon Taff Community Arts and this year with additional funding to provide laptops from Communities@one. The launch took place at the Rhondda Heritage Park Hotel. Congratulations to all those involved.
Speaking at the launch, I said that I hoped that in future the material could be stored on the web as well, and there seems to be enthusiasm for that. The project has spawned another venture in Caerphilly, where teeange mams there have now produced their own magazine.
This year, the magazine also has contributions from teenage dads as well. There has been extensive coverage of the launch and you can find the ITV Wales news item earlier in the week on the new ITV Wales Local website. Simply type Teenage Mams into the search engine on the site. (It doesn't let you link directly to the video footage, unfortunately).
BBC Wales also carries some of the stories of the mams and dads, from earlier years, based on a series they made last year.
The project has also won an award from Arts and Business for Legal and General, a key sponsor of the project.

Is this an endorsement of the rights of teeagers to get pregnant and another nail in the institution of marriage, which is rapidly becoming a temporary condition if not approaching obsolescence?
Food for thought?
Alun what a backward looking comment.
I remeber something similar comming from Rhondda Arts many years ago and it was a great project that gave these young people a voice and an opportunity to move foward and have expectations.
Young people need affirmation and encouragement not continual demonisation
Well done RCT
